Whale watching writ large

Locals are undoubtedly aware of cliff top whale engravings, less so tourists and visitors

Leaving aside the annual 'here today gone tomorrow' Sculpture by the Sea installations, how do the much subtler horizontal ‘installations’ incised into Hawkesbury sandstone by a bygone people fare in the 21st century?

'Re grooving' the past is surely alive and well in a bid to ensure that these semi-permanent marks do not disappear forever, as have countless thousands of carvings buried beneath suburb after suburb or waterways inundated by dams and weirs.

Whales matter, onshore of off.
