Sydney sunrise looks like sunset, courtesy of hazard reduction smoke

A rising sun struggles to make an impact over Sydney Harbour, its rays masked by thin cloud and the high volume of particulate matter, the end product of multiple hazard reduction burns during a late Spring window of opportunity.

Two months later, in the second week of December, a long hot summer seems increasingly unlikely, as a weak La Nina continues to gather strength.
